Cardcaptor is the title bestowed upon Sakura Kinomoto by Cerberus, granting her the duty of collecting the Clow Cards when she unwittingly unleashed them upon Tomoeda. Through the Sealing Wand granted along with the title, Sakura was able to capture the cards and eventually convert them into Sakura Cards. In the Clear Card Arc, history repeats itself when Sakura's growing magical power causes her to inadvertently create new Clear Cards she has to capture.
While he was never selected by Cerberus and has no actual ability to seal the cards, in the anime Syaoran Li was able to claim multiple Clow Cards for himself; if he has played a major role in weakening or cornering the Card entity prior to its capture, credit for the capture is awarded to him (as the materialized Card floats autonomously to its owner after capture). During the Clear Card arc, Syaoran used a teddy bear, enchanted by his mother, to take possession of the Sakura Cards. This was done to protect Sakura from her powers grow exorbitantly while creating the Clear Cards.

- In the Cardcaptors dub, Syaoran is explicitly referred to as a Cardcaptor alongside Sakura, whereas he was never granted the title in the original dub.
