"Sakura and Her Kind Father" (さくらとやさしいお父さん, Sakura to Yasashii Otōsan?) is the 22nd episode of the first season of Cardcaptor Sakura (anime). The Cardcaptors title for this episode is "No Time for Sleep".
Summary[]
Sakura spends time with her dad, helping him prepare for a lecture. She discovers a Clow Card that's connected to his work. As the card starts causing trouble, Sakura steps in to protect her father and capture the card.
Plot[]
Fujitaka in shock as he realizes Touya did the cooking
Fujitaka runs downstairs as his alarm goes off. When he apologizes into the kitchen, he realizes that Touya has done the cooking, Sakura puts down a tray of a plate and a cup on the table. Fujitaka is confused, as he was supposed to cook. Touya puts the cooked egg on the plate and Sakura pulls the chair back, telling her dad that she and Touya will handle all the chores as he seemed to be busy. Sakura gives her dad lunch for the day, saying how she was confident of it.
Later, Sakura and Tomoyo are at the library. Sakura informs Tomoyo about what she and her brother are up to, as her dad has an important research speech to do. Tomoyo praises Sakura for her teamwork with her brother, as Sakura adds another book to Tomoyo’s pile. As they check out the book, Yukito saying her last name makes her notice him. Yukito explains to Sakura and Tomoyo that Touya asked him to pick up the book when they are walking back. Before Yukito leaves, he tells Sakura that it will go well, referring to her dad’s speech.

At home, Sakura is worried as she watches Fujitaka working late. Touya beckons for her, and hands her a tray of food for their dad, a ‘late-night snack’. Sakura asks when he will be done with his work, she tells him not to worry about her and Touya. Fujitaka explains to her why he does the work that he does and tells Sakura to go and sleep.
In her room, Sakura tells Kero that she will go to her dad’s school, and asks if he wants to come. She tells him that she’s going to give her dad food when Kero says that he doesn’t need to study. At the mention of Tomoyo, Kero changes his mind and says that he’ll go, making a joke on how people take a lot of exams to get into university and Sakura was going in for free.
The next day, Sakura, Tomoyo and Kero–who is hiding inside a basket–ask many students at the university for her dad’s apartment. To their luck, they were able to get help. One of the girls helping decides to show them Fujitaka while he’s giving a lecture, Sakura and Tomoyo are amazed as they find out Fujitaka’s lectures are popular. They tell her that they are her dad’s assistants, and how they help him; however, they explain how he’s the one that helped them.

In his office, Fujitaka is busy typing away on his computer when the door opens. His assistants pardon themselves as they inform him that his daughter is there. Fujitaka abruptly gets up as Sakura gives him the food she prepared. He thanks her and Tomoyo for coming. His assistants leave, and he tells them how they’ve helped him finish. Fujitaka also tells Sakura that she and Touya have also helped him a lot as well.
As Sakura is talking to him, he falls asleep in the middle of the conversation. They leave the university as Sakura worries about her dad and how tired he is. Tomoyo suggests that she bring coffee for him and his assistants. She buys coffee and when they go into her dad’s room, he isn’t there, so they head to the reference room.
She gives coffee to her dad’s assistants, as one of them explains to her that he got called by another professor. However, all the assistants randomly fall asleep. Kero comes out of the basket, telling Sakura that it’s a clow card. Sakura sees the card and Kero tells her that the card, named “Sleep” doesn’t care who it puts to sleep.

Sakura takes out her wand, and Tomoyo is distraught that Sakura isn’t able to wear her clothes, due to this, she is distracted and gets hit by the sleep. Sakura uses Jump to get out of the way and make sure she isn’t also hit by the card. Sakura tries to seal it but isn’t able to as the card runs away. Sakura and Kero chase the card but they are unable to capture it, Sakura realizes that she needs to seal it quickly so that her dad can finish his project as she sees everyone asleep.
They run into her dad’s room and Kero succumbs to sleep as he gets hit by the card. Sakura calls upon Windy, Sakura can seal the card as Windy traps it. However, since she seals it mid-air, she is standing on top of a stack of papers and falls. Sakura looks around and realizes that her dad’s computer is broken. Kero gets up and applauds Sakura, but senses something is wrong. Sakura asks Kero if there is any card she can use to fix it, Kero, seeing tears in her eyes, tries to help but unfortunately, he tells her there are no cards that can fix it.
Kero hides as he senses people coming, and Fujitaka asks Sakura what’s wrong as he hears her weeping. Sakura tells him that the coffee she brought spilled on his computer and it’s broken, she apologizes but doesn’t stop crying. Fujitaka tells her to bring the coffee and they will go home afterward, smiling gently at her. In her bed, Kero asks why she’s still brooding over the situation as her dad forgave her. Sakura doesn’t reply.

Sakura gets up and walks to the kitchen and asks Touya where their dad is. Suddenly, they hear a noise from upstairs. They go into their dad’s room and he says that cleaning up is a pain. Sakura tries to help, but her dad tells her to leave the book there. Sakura starts shaking and apologizes again to her dad, Sakura insists that she’ll help with anything. He tells her that most of the paper is already finished, and if he works hard enough, he can finish it on time. Fujitaka says that he will need an assistant.
Sakura becomes her dad’s assistant, and along with Touya they help clean up, and Sakura occasionally brings tea and food. Sakura waves goodbye to her dad as Touya gives her the lunch that her dad made for her. Touya abruptly leaves with Sakura screaming for him to wait up for her.

- Tomoyo: Of course, for designing your costumes, Sakura! Because you are the one who wears them, Sakura, I must always create costumes with new ideas and a sense of design!
